Past Green Teens Projects
The Green Teens have conducted several projects over the past two and a half years. Since they were beginnin to clog up our About Us space, we figured it would be best to give them a page of their own.

The Eco-Bag

Green Teens' first project was an Earth Day celebration at a local elementary school . At Center Elementary School's Earth Day Celebration in April 2006, three members set up a cloth bag workshop for the students! Here students could hear a short presentation on the importance of using cloth bags and then make their very own. The club hoped that if students made their own bag, they would be proud of it, and ask their family to use the bag. Supplies were provided to students and everyone who participated   went home with a unique eco-bag of their own!

The club has held the workshop five times now! Twice at center elementary school (each time an estimated 60 children got to take home their very own bag), once at a Family Fun Day, once with at a craft camp in Ashford, CT, and once at the Columbia Congregational Church. We look forward to working with church groups, girl scouts, and other clubs in the future! After all, every bag makes a difference!

Green Teens has also held eco-bag booths for adults too! The Willimantic Food Co-Op is a local, organic grocery store that has been kind enough to allow Green Teens to set up a booth all about the eco-bag. Here the club had an informational bulliten board, pamphelts, contact informaion, and finally cloth bags! Cloth bags cost between $2 and $4, and 100% of the proceeds helped fund Green Teens!

The CFL Exchange

On April 26th, 2008 Green Teens gave up to three Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs to anyone who brought their old (or new) incandescent bulbs to Mansfield's Earth Day Celebration. Many people know that CFLs are more environmentally friendly than regular incandescent bulbs, however, few realize that when the switch is made, it is equally important to recycle old incandescent bulbs as well. They are not supposed to be thrown out in the garbage! Northeast Lamp Recycling then recycled all incandescent bulbs the club collected free of charge. The event was an environmental success!

Other Small Projects

Green Teens message is to provide simple solutions to the environmental problems our globe is facing. To do this, our club has given several environmental presentations to our local community. We have donated and planted two native maple trees to Ashford Memorial Park. We have sold CFL bulbs for as little as 50 cents just to spread them throughout our community. We have helped make sure that events are recycling (see us next at Festival on the Green) and slowly gained a strong presence throughout our community.
Dinner On The Lawn

Though the weather did not hold up on August 21st, 2009-- The Green Teens were present at the Dinner on the Lawn, sponsored by Youth Venture. The event took place in Concord New Hampshire, where several New England Venture teams showed the public what a difference they were making. The Green Teens met some other great groups and NH locals who have the same ideas as we do!
